Discuss 是英語口說中出現頻率非常高的動詞，但你用對了嗎？先來看看以下兩個句子錯在哪裡：
We should discuss about this issue soon.
Let's discuss later.　
你看出來了嗎？第一句正確應該寫成：We should discuss this issue soon，第二句則應該是：Let's discuss it later。因為 discuss 是及物動詞(transitive verb)，動詞後面必須有受詞(接受動作者)，句子的意思才會完整，而在受詞之前不可以有介系詞。

1.Discuss 後面接受詞，不需要加 about

2、Discuss 是及物動詞，後面必須接受詞

小提醒：與動詞 discuss 不同，名詞 discussion 後面必須加上 about 或 on 才能接討論的主題。
⭕ We had a long discussion about the restaurant idea.
❌ We had a long discussion the restaurant idea.
我們針對開餐廳的想法討論了很久。
例句：

The TV show featured an interesting discussion on celebrity culture.

以下介紹六個你不可不知的詞彙。

1.Talk about

因為 discuss 的語氣稍嫌正式，日常中如果要表示「談論」或「聊到」某個人事物時，用 talk about 簡單替代 discuss 語氣會比較輕鬆，適用於各種非正式的討論。
例句：

Can we talk about what happened this morning?
我們能談一下今天早上發生的事嗎？
We were just talking about that movie you recommended.
我們剛剛正好講到你推薦的那部電影。
I don't want to talk about my ex anymore.
我不想再講關於我前任的事了。

2.Have a conversation about

深入地談一談的意思，語意跟 discuss 很接近，但是後面必須用介系詞 about 才能接談論的主題。比起 talk about 的輕鬆隨意，have a conversation about 表示對這件事比較重視，通常用在雙方需要坐下來好好溝通的時候。
例句：

I think it's time for us to have a conversation about setting some boundaries.
我覺得該是時候認真談一下設定底線的事了。

情境對話

A: My son's teacher keeps sending me notes saying that he's been acting out in school.
B: Have you had a conversation with your son about it yet — just the two of you?
A: Not really. I keep putting it off because I don't want it to turn into a fight.
A：我兒子的老師一直寫聯絡簿給我說他在學校有狀況。
B：你有沒有跟他兩個人好好談過？
A：不算有。我一直在拖因為我不想跟他吵架。

3.Talk (something) through 或 Talk through (something)

Talk something through 的意思是把事情說清楚，指完整、徹底地討論，包括整理思緒，慢慢地釐清一件事，常用在面對困難的決定或複雜的狀況的時候。
例句：

They talked through the details to make sure they didn't miss anything.
他們徹底討論了所有細節以確認沒有遺漏任何東西。
If you're feeling overwhelmed, we can sit down and talk it through.
如果你覺得壓力很大，我們可以坐下來好好釐清事情。

4.Consult with

表示「與人商議或討論」時 consult 會接 with，有平行商議、交換意見或協商的意思，強調雙向的討論，而不是向專家請教或諮詢(使用 consult 後面不接 with 的用法)。
例句：

I need to consult with my team before making a decision.
我需要先跟我的團隊討論再做決定。
I'll consult with my wife and get back to you.
我會和我太太商量一下再回覆你。

5.Debate

Debate 除了大家熟知的「辯論」的意思之外，也可以表示激烈討論(類似唇槍舌戰)，用於雙方各有立場，需要說服彼此的討論中。要注意debate 不代表就是吵架或爭執，只是強調你來我往，各自表述意見。
例句：

The committee spent hours debating which proposal to adopt.
委員會花了好幾個小時討論要採納哪一個提案。
We debated whether to get sushi or Chinese for dinner.
我們對於要吃壽司還是中式料理展開了一番激辯。

補充：Debate 也有名詞用法，例如 There's been a lot of debate over screen time for children. (關於孩童使用螢幕的時間一直以來有許多不同的聲音。

6.Hash out

最後再追加一個進階的口語表達：hash out，這是台灣人比較不熟悉，但是在美式英語中常見的表達。Hash 本來的意思是把肉切碎，hash out 引申成透過反覆討論、敲定細節來得出結果的意思，常常用在有繁瑣的細節需確認，或是雙方需要花時間磨合才能做出結論的情況下。需要注意的是，hash out 這個片語同時包含了討論的過程和解決的結果，不是只有討論，也不是只有想出辦法(例如work out)而已。
例句：

It took the whole family a Sunday morning to hash out where to go for the holiday.
全家人花了整個週日早上，才把假期要去哪裡玩的事情定下來。

情境對話

A: Have you and Perry decided on the rules for your new board game night?
B: Well, we started talking about it, but we couldn't agree on anything, so we need to hash it out this weekend.
