一、Regardless 副詞：「儘管如此」、「無論如何」
雖然regardless的字尾是-less，看起來是形容詞，不過多數字典都把regardless列作副詞，表示「儘管如此」或「無論如何」。
• The weather was terrible, but they went camping regardless (= anyway).
(天氣很糟，但他們仍然去露營了。)
• I told her it was a bad idea, but she did it regardless (= anyway).

• The team lost several key players. Regardless (= nevertheless, even so), they played very well.

三、與regardless of意義相近的字
1.Irrespective of 介系詞片語：「不管」、「無論」
Irrespective of與regardless of的意義與用法相同，不過irrespective of稍微更正式一點，比較常使用於寫作。
• The manager treats everyone the same, irrespective of their gender, age, or social background.
(經理以相同的方式對待每個人，無論他們的性別、年齡、社會背景是甚麼。)
•The fans always have a good time at the ball game, irrespective of whether their home team wins or loses.

2.No matter：「不管」、「無論」
No matter的意義與regardless of相同，表示「不管」或「無論」。不過no matter後面需接名詞子句，不能只接名詞。No matter經常使用於口語。
• Tom calls his wife every day, no matter where he is.
(Tom每天打電話給他太太，無論他人在哪裡。)
• We will never finish the work on time, no matter how hard we try.
(無論我們多努力嘗試，我們都無法準時完成工作。)
• No matter what role Amy plays, she will be a great asset to the team.
(無論她扮演甚麼角色，Amy對團隊而言都是重要資產。)
• No matter where you shop, make sure it is a trusted marketplace that has buyer protections in place.
(無論你在哪裡購物，都要確保那是一個可靠的市場，並且具備買家保障機制。)
3.In spite of / despite：「儘管」、「雖然」
In spite of或despite後面接名詞，表示「儘管」或「雖然」。更精確來說，in spite of / despite表示「出乎意料的對比」。舉例來說，天氣不好下雨的話，多數人通常會取消戶外露營的計劃。可是如果Ted不取消計劃，跟多數人的計劃不同，仍然要去露營的話，英文可以說：
• Ted decided to go camping despite the rain.
(儘管下雨，Ted還是決定去露營。)
與in spite of / despite 強調「對比」的意思有些不同，regardless of強調「條件不影響決定或結果」的意思。讓我們再看一次上面的例句：
•The gym welcomes all new members regardless of gender or age.

這句話的精確意思是，不管申請者的性別是男或女，或者他們的年紀是大或小，他們都被歡迎加入健身房，Regardless of也不能跟in spite of / despite 互換。
