Compatible 是多益頻出的形容詞，在英文中表示兩個或多個人、物或條件可以一起運作、共存或相處，彼此不會產生衝突或牴觸。常用於設備、裝置、功能、生活方式等，依照情境，中文可翻譯成「相容的」、「能共存的」、「合得來的」等意思。
一、Compatible 常見句型
(be) compatible with + 對象
表示與…相容、能與…共存、能與…搭配使用。
例如:The two devices are compatible with each other.

A and B are compatible (或複數主詞 + are compatible)
表示A 和 B 是相容的；A 和 B可以合得來。
例如:

compatible + 名詞
修飾「相容的、相合的」人或事物。

1.用於設備、軟硬體與科技上
多益考試中最常出現的用法。用於兩項設備、零件或裝置等可以互相配合使用時。
例句:
Make sure the replacement battery is compatible with your handheld device before purchasing it.
(購買前請先確認替換的電池和你的手持裝置可以相容。)
These memory cards are not compatible with every camera model.
(這些記憶卡並不是跟每種照相機款式都能相容。)
2.表示兩件事情可以共存，不會互相牴觸
Compatible 所指的兩個對象也可以是兩種理念、做法、生活方式或價值觀等。
例句:
The prescribed medication is fully compatible with your current dietary supplements.
(這款處方藥物與你目前的膳食補充品完全不會有牴觸。)
Are free speech and national security truly compatible?
(言論自由和國家安全真的可以同時兼顧嗎？)
以上用法可以理解成A 與 B 可同時存在，彼此間不會產生衝突，常用於搭配抽象事物與情境，例如：values (價值觀)、regulations (法規)等。
3.用於人與人之間
當人與人的個性、生活習慣或興趣等方面能夠互相配合時，也可以用compatible 表示彼此合得來。此時重點不是兩者是否相同，而是彼此的差異是否能夠和諧共存。
例句:
My roommate and I have very different tastes, but we are compatible in many other ways.
(我和室友的品味很不一樣，不過我們在許多方面都很合得來。)
三、Compatible 常見錯誤
1、搭配錯誤的介係詞
當 compatible 後面要指出與哪個人或事物相容時，需使用介系詞 with，形成 「compatible with + 名詞/代名詞」的格式。
My iPad is not compatible with this cable. ⭕
My iPad is not compatible to this cable. ❌
My iPad is not compatible for this cable. ❌
(我的 iPad 跟這條連接線不相容。)
2、與 comparable 混淆
多益常見 compatible 與 comparable (比得上的)在同一個題目的選項中，最簡單的識別方法是根據搭配的介係詞判斷：compatible 接 with，comparable 接 to，或透過上下文意 (context) 解讀。
例如：
表示「彼此相容」
Candidates must demonstrate a leadership style compatible with our corporate values.
(應徵者必須展現出與我們的企業價值觀契合的領導風格。)
➡ 不是 comparable to our corporate values。
表示「可以相提並論」
The durability of this synthetic material is comparable to traditional leather.
(這種合成材料的耐用度足以和傳統皮革比擬。)
➡ 不是 compatible with traditional leather。
3、與 suitable 混淆
Suitable (適合的)表示某樣東西符合需求或狀態，compatible 則接近英文中 able to work / fit / go well together，意指彼此能共存且互相搭配。
例句：
These clothes are suitable for interviews. ⭕

(這些衣服適合面試。)

3.空格出現在所有格 (例如 their)、冠詞 (例如 the) 之後或介係詞(例如 of) 之前時，答案須選「名詞」格式。
進階考題：如果已經確認詞性，而選項中有出現正反義 (polarity) 選項時，需要快速掃描句意，確定為正面表達還是負面表達。例如：
